Okay, since I appear to be the only with forum mafia experience outside of the other two games on this site that has spoken in this game (even though it is an incredibly small amount of experience as opposed to some others that I know of that play here), I will have to say a few things to start off with.
A day start is NOT a bad thing. This prevents people from going into their night choices blind. This helps both town and mafia/anti-town roles alike. It allows for us to talk amongst ourselves and try to figure out who we personally think is suspicious or showing suspicious behavior. With a day start, not only does a cop role or tracker role or a doc role or a vig role get a better idea of who to target at night, it also allows the townies to get ideas into their mind of who is mafia and who could possibly be linked together as mafia partners based on how they act during this first day. If we A) Wait for everyone who has signed up to actually come look at the game and post instead of rushing to end that day while complaining that no one has said anything and B) Begin to have serious discussion, just like you would during the first day if it had been a night start, then we will have a very productive day. By ending the day, you hand the mafia a free kill on a platter, despite the fact that you had a chance to try to hunt them down during that day that you gave away. Be patient and allow the other players to post in the game and then begin the actual playing of the game.
